New STEP Diploma in Trust & Estate Planning

Over the past 12 months the STEP Ireland committee have undertaken a significant review of the content of STEP’s Diploma in Trust & Estate Planning to ensure that it provides attendees with a comprehensive and practical education in trust and estate planning.

This project has now completed and the revised STEP Diploma in Trust & Estate Planning, to be run in conjunction with the Law Society, will begin on 17 September 2016 and applications for the Diploma are now open.

The course is intended primarily for persons who have practical experience in the areas of wills, trusts, estate planning, probate and administration of estates within Ireland. In order to participate on the course, you must have relevant work experience of at least one year in the areas covered on the course and one or more of the following qualifications: Solicitor, Barrister, Certified Accountant, Chartered Accountant, Associate or Fellow of the Irish Taxation Institute, Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (Trustee Diploma), Associate of the Institute of Bankers in Ireland (Diploma in Wealth Management), Members of the Irish Institute of Legal Executives or another professional qualification deemed equivalent by the Law Society and STEP, or such qualification deemed to be of an equivalent standard by the STEP Worldwide governing committee.

This course is designed to enable successful candidates to advise clients on all aspects of the creation of wills, the operation of trusts, associated tax implications and overall estate planning for clients.  Practical in its approach, this course provides participants with real life situations that are faced by practitioners and gives real solutions to problems encountered.

Candidates are advised that upon successful passing of the Diploma, it is a prerequisite to have two years relevant experience before their application to upgrade to full membership will be accepted.

STEP submission on Section 117 of the Succession Act 1965

STEP Ireland has made a submission to the Law Reform Commission as part of the public consultation on Section 117 of the Succession Act 1965.
